Soulard celebrates our French heritage with a return to Bastille Days. We honor the peasants who rejected the monarchy by “Gathering the Mob”.
We will meet at Howards @ 13th and Lynch in our worst peasant attire! We shall bring our anti-monarchy signs & our “thirst” for vengeance—where we will search out the dastardly King & Queen in hopes of capturing them (in a really nice carriage), and forcing them through the streets to their gruesome demise under the guillotine in Pontiac Park.
We invite our fellow Soulardians to parade behind the doomed duo & behind the powerful percussion of “Joia” as we celebrate the history and uniqueness of all things Soulard.
“Gathering the Mob” will be Friday, July 10, 2015. The gather will begin at 5 p.m.—the parade at 6 p.m. Enjoying time at Pontiac Park after the “beheading” strongly encouraged!
Soulard’s celebration at Bastille Times will continue Sunday, July 12, 2015, as we present “Bastille en Vogue” at our own Franco—the only French restaurant in Soulard.
Bastille en Vogue is a fashion show presenting the styles of the Bastille times—from a point of historical whimsy. Enjoy the opulent fashions while sipping wine or beer and enjoying appetizers as only Franco can present.
Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased on-line @ Eventbrite.com. A percentage of profits will benefit the Soulard Restoration Group. The show will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature original designs by Luann Carmody Denten on “stage” and throughout the attending audience.
