Historic Standards

Historic Standards

After Soulard received its historic designation, individual rehabbers and developers began to recognize the true hidden gems of the housing stock beneath the years of neglect. As they began the task of saving the buildings, it was apparent that guidelines needed to be put in place.

The historic standards were developed to provide a clear and specific set of criteria to govern exterior architectural features within the designated Historic District. These standards supplement the City of St. Louis’ Building Code and pertain to construction, maintenance and repair located within the District.
