Update on Board Bill 152 & Community Input
SRG Members,
Soulard should be proud of how the neighborhood came together to make our voice heard. Thank you to the more than 100 community members who shared input through the SRG survey. Your feedback directly informed SRG’s decision to submit a letter of opposition to the Board of Aldermen as the bill was written.
A summary of the survey results are available here.
Last week, we received an update from Alderwoman Antwi that, following conversations with stakeholders and community members, the sponsor has withdrawn Board Bill 152 from consideration for the current session. She also asked that we share an additional attachment with the community, which includes research and background information related to food trucks.
Since then, SRG has met with the Soulard CID, SBA, and SSBD to further align on a community position that reflects the survey results. Based on those discussions, the Soulard organizations approved sending a combined letter to Alderwoman Antwi on behalf of the neighborhood, which was sent Sunday evening.
That letter requests that Soulard be removed from the bill for the first year. During that time, we are asking for the opportunity to work collaboratively with the City and other stakeholders to better define what a thoughtful, neighborhood specific approach could look like. The letter also outlines key updates that would be important if Soulard were to remain included in the bill.
A revised version of the legislation is expected to be introduced in the next session, with the goal of addressing concerns raised during this process. As part of that effort, Soulard organizations are coordinating a meeting with Alderwoman Antwi as early as this week to continue the conversation and discuss next steps.
We will continue to keep you updated as this progresses.
