Committee reports

Parlour Tour had no update.

Membership

  • Social hosted by the Soulard Station.

Station

  • Ladies’ Night: September 8 at the Soulard Station.

CI&E

  • Rummage Sale: September 26 (reminder).
  • Decorating contest: runs through the month of October. Prize to be determined.
  • Movie Night in Pontiac Square: October 24, showing Hocus Pocus.

Police report

  • Two homicides in the area.
  • One robbery, at St. Vincent Church.
  • License plate tab thefts: call in and make a report. One victim was ticketed while their car was parked without the sticker.

Safety

  • National Night Out is October 6. The deadline to register is September 20.
  • Invite your neighbors and try to meet new ones.
  • A $300 reimbursement is available to those who host the event on their block.

Beautification

Communications

  • New website announced. It is the result of a 3 to 4 year initiative.
    • Everything is better organized in one place, including local businesses.
    • The calendar is in transition, so events may appear to shift around.
  • Social House:
    • An attempt was made to revoke the liquor license. Small businesses and residents around the property did not want to sign the petition.
    • A new option through the Excise Committee is being explored.

Development

  • Concert Series: September 26 with Boogie Chyld. Volunteers are needed.
  • Oktoberfest: October 9 and 10. Volunteer recruitment is still open, with most help needed on the 10th.

Historical

  • Ghost Tour preparations are in progress.

Ad Hoc: 1222 Allen

  • A court hearing is set for September 3 at 9:30 am (Municipal Court, Division 17) on proceeding with renovations.
  • The attorney for the receivership will attend.
  • If the court gives the green light, a contract will be signed to start renovations.

Ad Hoc: Bylaw Review

  • The committee is starting to define its structure. More to come soon.

PRT

  • Letter of support to 1301 Gravois for conditional use as an event venue. The property is outside the district but close by.
  • D’s Place: discussions about adding a covered patio so the patio can be used year round.
  • Jimmy Sgroi is stepping down as committee chair due to schedule constraints.
  • A new committee chair is needed. Anyone interested should contact [email protected].
  • Bob Printz and April Flores will work on the committee until there is a new chair.

Treasurer’s report

Presented by President-Elect John Cline. Treasurer Abbey Bethel was not present.

  • Balance: $76,567.94
  • Change from last month: -$651
  • Difference for the fiscal year: $8,869.96
  • The biannual audit is currently underway.

Secretary’s report

  • No report. Secretary Andrew Paniello was out.

Soulard neighborhood organizations

SBA and CID had no update.

  • SSBD: Billy Tomber reminded residents to save their National Night Out receipts for up to $500 in reimbursement.
  • KVV (Krewe of Vices and Virtues):
    • Bingo was successful. Another is planned for February.
    • October 3: Recruitment and Krewe appreciation BBQ at Frenchtown Dog Park.
    • October 25, 1:00 to 3:00 pm: Trunk or Treat at American Legion BKZ Post 422.
    • December 13, noon to 2:00 pm: Santa Comes to Soulard at Soulard Station, 1911 S. 12th Street.

Alder update

Given by AJ, assistant to Alderwoman Jami Cox Antwi.

  • Social House: The alderwoman’s office acknowledges the continued issues stemming from the property and supports the community petition. It is looking into changing the process to be more inclusive of residents who want to sign petitions.
  • Mount Soulard: Penalties and violations have been issued. The developers are the ones being fined, not the property owner.
  • Paving: South Broadway between Cherokee and Sidney.
  • Signage: The rotating eagle sign from New Jersey has been installed at Anheuser-Busch.
  • Board of Aldermen: Returns September 11 and will address vacant and problem properties, with the aim of faster enforcement.

State Representative update

Given by State Rep. Marty Joe Murray (78th District), [email protected].

  • Legislators are going back into session for potential vetoes.
  • The Governor’s commission is trying to control police budgets. Efforts are underway to reverse this.
  • May 16 tornado relief funds are on hold while under review.
  • Rep. Murray presented an award to Joy Christensen for restoration efforts on the Arzt House.

Neighborhood improvement

Board update

  • The Board is working on an agenda for a board retreat. Planning is on pause while topics are determined.

New business

  • At a special meeting held September 2, the Board approved a storage unit for committees and coolers.
  • Amanda Ramcharan resigned as Past President.

Adjournment

Billy Tomber moved to adjourn, and Becca Gilberg seconded. The meeting adjourned at 8:05 pm.
